Our client is a UK-based innovative technology company specializing in smart wearable devices for swimming training. Their mission is to help swimmers track performance more accurately and solve the common problem of miscounted laps during training.
The company develops electronic swimming products that require small, precise mechanical components to interface smoothly with the electronic sensors and user controls.
These components are designed for frequent handling and adjustment by swimmers. The knurled grip must be aesthetically pleasing, tactilely comfortable, and free from sharp edges or burrs that could interfere with usage. Additionally, the components function similarly to watch-style diving or swimming chronograph push buttons, incorporating internal steps and blind bores to house springs and waterproof seals.
Challenge:
The parts include a threaded section topped with a knurled knob. High concentricity between the thread and the knurled portion is critical.
If the concentricity is off, the component tilts when screwed into the device casing, which could compromise water resistance and smooth operation during submersion.
Our Solution:
We optimized the CNC setup and tooling to ensure perfect coaxial alignment between the thread and knurled top. Precision fixturing and in-process measurement maintained concentricity within strict tolerances.

Machining these features accurately in small POM components is challenging due to tight tolerances and the risk of material deformation or burr formation.
